Alcohol related damage represent more 7% of health problems

Excessive alcohol consumption causes 3.3 million deaths a year worldwide.

Alcohol related damage is responsible for more than 7% of health problems and premature deaths. Even moderate alcohol consumption increases the risk of long-term heart disease, liver disease and cancer, and consumption in frequent high amounts can cause dependence.

Any amount of alcohol can be a risk during pregnancy or when driving. Young people are particularly vulnerable to short term effects of alcohol intoxication, including accidents and violence. Not surprisingly alcohol related deaths represent around 25% of all deaths of young males aged between 15 and 29 years.

Harmful use of alcohol is the second leading cause of illness derived from lifestyles and alcohol addiction is a factor risk for over sixty chronic illnesses, such as liver disease and pancreatitis caused by alcohol, most other digestive diseases, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, disorders caused by fetal alcohol disorders neuropsychiatric as alcohol dependence.
