Thyroplasty type I

Like intrafold injections, thyroplasty is a technique that aims to correct the defects that prevent the closure of the vocal folds, the difference being that this technique is permanent.

 

The procedure is primarily performed to reduce vocal fold paralysis.

 

In this procedure, a titanium or Gore-tex implant is inserted between the vocal fold muscle and cartilage through an opening made in the cartilage. The implant allows us to “push” to the paralyzed vocal fold toward the medial line, resulting in improved phonation.
