At HC Marbella International Hospital we continue to expand our medical team in order to offer increasingly specialised care in the Digestive System. Therefore, we are delighted to announce the hiring of Dr Jesús Santa Bárbara Ruiz, specialist in Digestive System, who joins our Digestive Unit in Marbella with a special role in digestive endoscopy and preventive medicine.
Dr. Santa Bárbara graduated in Medicine from the University of Cordoba and completed his training as a specialist via MIR in Digestive System at the Hospital Clínico Universitario Virgen de la Victoria (Malaga), one of the leading centres in the province. After completing his residency, he has practised as a Specialist Physician, consolidating his experience in the comprehensive management of digestive pathology, both in outpatient consultations and in the hospital setting.
With regard to training, his focus on hepatology stands out, with a Master’s degree in Hepatology and specific training as an expert in viral hepatitis and liver cancer, cirrhosis and its complications and liver diseases. This profile provides significant added value for the monitoring of patients with liver disorders, evolutionary control and coordinated management of chronic pathologies that require continuity of care.
At HC Marbella, Dr Santa Bárbara will expand our diagnostic and therapeutic capacity by performing digestive endoscopies (gastroscopy and colonoscopy), key clinical tools for studying digestive symptoms, confirming diagnoses with precision and, in many cases, treating lesions during the procedure itself. He also promotes a priority line for our digestive tumour unit: the early detection of colon cancer, favouring the early identification of lesions and the preventive management of polyps or other alterations, with the aim of acting before the disease progresses
His professional profile is complemented by training in sedation in endoscopy, aimed at improving patient comfort and the quality of the procedure, as well as a clinical placement focused on abdominal and digestive ultrasound, which reinforces his comprehensive diagnostic approach. He has also been involved in clinical teaching and scientific research, with participation in digestive and hepatological congresses.
With this appointment, HC Marbella continues to develop towards a more comprehensive Digestive Unit: increased endoscopy capacity and a stronger focus on prevention and early diagnosis.
