80% of lower limb ulcer cases of are related to varicose veins and venous insufficiency, hence they are called varicose ulcers.

 

An ulcer is a loss of skin substance characterized by slow and difficult progress , chronic nature, and tendency to relapse.

 

The main cause of lower limb ulcers is usually venous hypertension, which is estimated to account for 75% to 90% of vascular ulcers.

  • In recent years, treatment of lower limb ulcers has evolved considerably and there are numerous treatment options.
  • Compression, rest and elevation of the leg have traditionally been used to promote venous return.
  • But local treatment should be accompanied by correction of the cause of the ulcer to prevent recurrence. Outpatient treatment such as Microfoam sclerotherapy or surgical treatment may be used to do this.
