Nephrology

The nephrology service provides diagnostic tests that help nephrologists to determine the specific disease present in the patient, allowing the degree of kidney damage to be estimated.

Measuring the glomerular filtration rate

Serum cystatin C test:

Testing of levels of serum cystatin C in correlation with other glomerular filtration markers

Gammagraphy tests:

Calculation of glomerular filtration rate using isotopes.

Measuring renal tubulointerstitial injury markers

Urinary N-acetylglucosaminidase test:

Identification of presence of chronic or acute tubulointerstitial injury.

NGAL (neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin) blood test:

Test for the presence of particularly acute tubular injury.

Renal biopsy

The Anatomical Pathology service tests for and diagnoses kidney diseases. These analyses will allow us to gather complete renal morphological information and to assess the effectiveness of treatment and prognosis.
