Augmenting the buttocks or inserting implants is a surgical procedure that is aimed at improving the size and shape of the buttocks, usually for women with small buttocks or to correct a loss of volume as a result of illness.
In this surgery, the incision is made in the intergluteal cleft, for the sole reason that scars will not be visible. The implants are inserted under the fascia of the gluteus maxima, placing it in the centre of the buttock.
The surgery ranges between 1 and 2 hours, usually under general anaesthesia and with an overnight stay in our Hospital. In order to ensure the incisions to scar correctly, the area will be bandaged during the first 3 days. Patients may experience swelling in the area, which will decrease after two weeks, at which time the stitches are also removed. A few weeks later, the buttocks fully recover their normal appearance.
