On World Pharmacists Day, we would like to recognise and celebrate the essential role of our hospital pharmacist. His work goes far beyond simply dispensing medicines. His vast experience and specialised training make him a key member of the team in managing our patients’ treatment, particularly in the field of oncology.
Tomás has a solid academic and professional background. He holds a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Granada and completed his residency as a Specialist Hospital Pharmacist at the Hospital Universitario Virgen de las Nieves. He also completed numerous master’s degrees specialising in pharmaceutical care and oncology at prestigious institutions such as the University of Valencia and the Francisco de Vitoria University.
Furthermore, he has completed specialised programmes in immunotherapy, haematological oncology, and advanced therapies such as CAR-T cell therapies, always striving to keep abreast of the latest advances in the fight against cancer.
Since 2011, he has led the Pharmacy Department at our hospital, working tirelessly to ensure that patients receive the most advanced, effective and safe treatment. His role is crucial at every stage of the treatment process, from the selection and procurement of medicines to the monitoring of their use, ensuring that each dose is perfectly tailored to the individual needs of every patient.
In addition to managing treatments, our pharmacist is an essential part of multidisciplinary team meetings, actively contributing to improving service quality and patient safety. In oncology, his intervention is vital to ensuring that patients have access to the latest available treatments, working in close collaboration with the medical team on every therapeutic decision.
Tomás not only ensures that patients receive the medicines they need, but also has advanced specialist training in oncology, backed by the prestigious international BCOP (Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist) certification. This accreditation recognises his high level of knowledge and experience in the field of oncology, placing him amongst the few pharmacists in Spain to hold this qualification.
His ongoing professional training allows him to remain at the forefront of scientific advances in oncology, enabling our patients to access innovative therapies, from immunotherapies to personalised medicines, thereby significantly improving clinical outcomes.
Another defining quality of Tomás Arrazola is his strong sense of collegiality and his deep dedication to patients. His colleagues describe him as a leading figure in his field, always ready to collaborate with the medical team. His commitment is evident in every clinical meeting, and his extensive knowledge of the latest advances in oncology ensures that every patient receives the most appropriate treatment.
