General Recommendations for a Healthy Summer

Pediatra en Marbella

The summer season began before its meteorological date, something habitual in the last years. This period of the year has special relevance in our environment. Malaga has more than 180 km of coastline and 945 km of Andalusian coast, the number of private and public swimming pools is increasing and water sports are increasingly established in our area.

The current and updated regulations and the information provided to citizens and professionals on prevention issues from the Ministry of Health, Equality and Consumption with Scientific Societies, do not ensure a sensible compliance by the population and every summer there is a Number of accidents, many of them fatal.

From the International Hospital HC Marbella we want to “refresh” this advice, especially on children, with brief practical recommendations to prevent accidents at this time of year.

In different chapters and in our social networks we will develop different aspects:

  • Decalogue against the “Heat Wave”.
  • Protection against the sun.
  • Prevention of accidents during recreational activities in the aquatic environment.
  • Measures against jellyfish stings.

Ten commandments to enjoy and prevent heat risks.

  • Drink water and liquids, even if you are not thirsty.
  • Do not abuse drinks with caffeine, alcohol or with sugars.
  • Special care is required for infants, children and elderly, especially if they suffer from illnesses that can be aggravated by heat (kidney, heart problems …).
  • Stay where possible in shady or chilled places.
  • Reduce physical activity and avoid outdoor sports between 12:00 and 17:00.
  • Wear light clothing, sunglasses and a hat.
  • Never leave anyone in a parked vehicle (especially children or elderly people).
  • Check for symptoms that remain more than an hour after exposure to heat (headache, vomiting, feeling unwell).
  • Keep your medication in a cool place; the heat can deteriorate its composition and effects.
  • Meals should be light, frequent and small amounts (salads, fruits, vegetables, juices).
