Each year, new research fields offer hope to patients with diseases like Alzheimer’s and which have always been considered fatal. Nowadays, various medical advances allow both elderly and chronically ill people to have a much simpler and more enjoyable life.
Recently, a study that is being performed on Alzheimer’s disease has come to light. In this study, a drug is able to slow down the cognitive decline in people with Alzheimer’s disease by reducing levels of a protein called amyloid toxic in the brains of those who have not yet developed symptoms of dementia. The drug keeps the cognitive qualities of the patient, representing a breakthrough in the fight against this disease.
Alzheimer’s affects both the patient and the family and it creates a huge dependency for people living with the patient.
